UPTET: Everything you Need to Know to Crack the Eligibility Test

Eligibility parameters

As is the norm with all public sector exams, UPTET Eligibility Criteria also hosts a set of requirements for aspiring candidates. The notification for UPTET (Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test) is published by Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (UPBEB) on its official website. Candidates aged between 18-35 years ( for the reserved category age varies according to relaxation) are eligible to apply for UPTET and also need to satisfy the criteria given below.


Educational Qualification for Primary Teacher (Class I-V)


  • Aspirants Graduated with any discipline from college/University affiliated from UGC (University Grants Commission) along with mandatory completed or pursuing Diploma In D.EI.Ed (Diploma In Elementary Education)
  • Aspirants who have completed or pursuing BTC (Basic Training Certificate) as Shiksha Mitra after graduation from N.C.T.E. ( Nation council of Teacher Education) affiliated college/University.
  • Aspirants In the final year or completed D.Ed (Diploma In Education) after obtaining graduation certificate from U.G.C. recognized University.
  • Aspirants with 50% minimum marks in graduation or post-graduation and post that should be studying or completed B.Ed ( Bachelor of Education).
  • Aspirants in association their graduation should be pursuing or completed B.T.C. in Urdu.
  • Aspirants with 50% marks in senior secondary in association with finished or final year appearing 4- year B.EI.Ed ( Bachelor Of Elementary education). 

Educational Qualification for Upper Primary Teacher (Class VI-VIII)

  • Aspirants with two-year Diploma in Elementary Education and completed graduation from NCTE recognized University.
  • Aspirants who have finished their graduation and along with possessing or appearing in B.Ed/B.Ed special education.
  • Aspirants those appearing or passed 4year BScEd/BSc BEd degree from UGC/NCTE affiliated University/College with 50% marks in senior secondary.
  • Aspirants having a 4-year degree or Studying in the final year of B.EI.Ed and acquired 50% marks in senior secondary.
  • Aspirants scored minimum 50% marks in Senior Secondary and passed or pursuing 1-year B.Ed allied to N.C.T.E.

UPTET Exam Framework

The exam pattern for primary teachers of UPTET comprises 150 MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) with one mark for each question conducted. This section is composed of five subjects for which 150 minutes is being given to attempt all the questions. Subjects for Primary Teachers are as follows:
  • Language-I (Hindi)
  • Child Development and Pedagogy
  • Language-II (English/Urdu/Sanskrit)
  • Environmental Studies
  • Mathematics

The Exam Pattern for Upper Primary Level Teachers is also made up of 150 objective types of questions, conducted offline for a stipulated time of 150 minutes. This section is distributed into four subjects which are as follows:
  • Child Development and Pedagogy
  • Mathematics and Science or Social Studies
  • Language-I (Hindi)
  • Language-II (English/Urdu/Sanskrit)

UPTET Course of Study

It is essential to acquaint the syllabus thoroughly to successfully crack the exam. UPTET subject-wise syllabus could be understood as follows:

  • Child Development & Pedagogy: Principles, dimensions and Concept of growth and development. Factors of affection development and its association with learning, Individual Differences, Concept of personality, Concept of intelligence, diverse learning, the concept of adjustment etc.
  • Environmental Studies: Family and friends relationships, Civilization and Culture, Institutions and Public places, Profession, Personal Hygiene, Communication and transportation etc.
  • Social Studies: Geography, history, Pedagogical issues, Economics, Political and Social Science etc.
  • Science: Food, The World of the Living, Materials, How Things Work, Natural Phenomena and Resources, Pedagogical issues etc.
  • Mathematics: Pedagogical of maths, Algebra, Mensuration, Data Handling, Number System etc.
  • Language Knowledge: Language Comprehension, Grammar and Language Pedagogy, Unseen Passage, Principles of language Teaching etc.

Salient features about UPTET Certification.


  • The UPTET certificate validity is limited for 5 years.
  • Candidates belonging to the general category need to secure 60% in the exam to qualify.
  • Candidates belonging to reserved category need to secure at least 55% in UPTET exam to qualify.
